Sapphire Spotlight

Sapphire Spotlight

As we head into Fall Season this September, we are shining our spotlight on the beautiful gemstone Sapphire! Our Sapphires are ethically sourced and hand-selected, allowing us to procure premier cuts and colors for our clients. From our current jewelry designs, you can find pink, white, and blue sapphires in a variety of cuts and sizes.

Known as the stones of serenity and wisdom, natural sapphires have captivated the jewelry world for centuries. Sapphires are a variety of the corundum mineral, and boast a wide array of colors (save for red, which are rubies!). Sapphires that are not blue in color are known as “fancy sapphires.” These tough beauties have a Mohs hardness ranking of 9, only lesser in strength to diamonds.

  • Pink Sapphire is associated with compassion and renewal.
  • White Sapphire is associated with clarity, purity, and purpose.
  • Blue Sapphire is associated with balance, wisdom, power, and truth.
  • Sapphires are the birthstone of September, and the gemstone of the 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries.

Sapphires in History

According to historic tales, Helen of Troy possessed a large star sapphire that held the key to her allure. The abduction of Helen led to the Trojan War, where King Menelaus “launched a thousand ships” to rescue his beautiful queen.

The Royal British Family has also favored sapphires throughout history. From the Imperial State Crown, which includes the Stuart Sapphire and was worn by Queen Elizabeth II, to Princess Diana’s personally selected engagement ring, later given to Kate Middleton by Prince William, blue sapphires have been a well-established gemstone of this royal heritage.

Sapphires in Buddha Jewelry
